This summer has been full of celebrations: graduations, birthday and anniversary parties, an ordination, welcoming new staff, church camp, a mission trip to Detroit, reunions, weddings, 4th of July, and more.
And the celebrating continues as we prepare to move into the fall. New ideas are being presented and new energies are surfacing for how we live out our mission to “spread God’s love, hope and joy with others.”
As summer nears its end, we prepare to celebrate back to school, the Iowa State Fair, and a change in the temperatures, maybe. Ha!
Change is happening in the congregation too. God is doing a new thing through us. God’s Spirit is moving in our midst, asking:
How might our education classes reach more people?
How might we include and welcome children and youth in worship?
How might our “through-the-week” programming touch more lives?
How might we be of service in our community?
How might we build relationships with our nesting congregations?
In Isaiah 43:19, we read:
I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Just as it is amazing to imagine forging a path through the tangled wilderness
and finding water in a barren desert, so it is amazing for us to perceive new ways
of God calling us to be church together. But the journey can be oh so exciting!
As we journey into fall, may we be open to new ways of being led by the Spirit.
May we celebrate God’s Spirit at work among us and in us.
Blessings,
Pastor Candice
