Everywhere we look, we see elements of God’s creation – trees with leaves changing colors, animals of all shapes and sizes, flowing streams and rivers, abundant stars in the night sky, fields of corn and soybeans ready for harvest, and so much more.
What parts of God’s natural world are in your line of consciousness? We are children of God’s creation and are called to love and care for all that God has made.
The fall is a wonderful time to focus on the beauty and intricacy of God’s creation and be sure we don’t take it for granted. We see God’s divine wisdom in creation. God created a world that is interconnected, joined together in a complex web of related parts. God holds all these things together – and expects us to help.
We live in a world affected by global warming, over consumption, and pollution from fossil fuels. Our actions have had dire consequences for our planet. We want to work with creation to protect and conserve it, not ignore or abuse it.
One way to take care of God’s good creation is by recycling. Plastic bins are located in the workroom and the fellowship hall in which to place paper and plastic items to be recycled. A container for pop cans is in the south hall. (Thanks to those who take and recycle the items we collect.)
As we enter the autumn harvest season, we are reminded of our relationship with the natural elements that surround us. God shows us how creation works, how it flows and moves around us every day.
The psalmist praises God and tells us that God reigns over all creation:
“Let them praise the name of God,
for God’s name alone is exalted;
God’s glory is above earth and heaven”
(Psalm 148:13 The New Testament and Psalms: An Inclusive Version).
Each evening before dinner or at bedtime, offer a prayer of praise for the parts of God’s creation that you observed during your day. A possible prayer might be:
Creator God, we meet you in creation every day.
Today I met you in _____________________________,
Thank you for the daily reminder of your great works
and powerful things you continue to do in our lives each day. Amen.
Blessings,
Candice
