Lent is a season of reflection and renewal. It is a time to “let go” of what limits us and holds us back. It is a time to embrace those things that give us life and joy.
In Ash Wednesday worship, we reflected on the biblical story from John 12:1-8, where Mary pours very expensive perfume on Jesus’ sore and dusty feet and wipes them with her hair. She performed a gracious and kind act, preparing Jesus’ body for burial.
We talked together about what acts of gracious kindness we could do during the Lenten
season, putting these offerings on paper and taping them to the cross in the worship
center.
Random acts of kindness we said we would offer during the Season of Lent included:
· Write love notes to my mom
· Write notes to the Person of the Week each Sunday
· Call people on the telephone
· Give someone a compliment
· Help the homeless with food and cash
· Visit in care centers
· Help my nephew who needs it so badly
· Pray for home bound and sick people
· Be nicer to myself and others around me, especially my very patient spouse
· Help someone up
· Try to thank people more for what they do – without them knowing
· E-mail and visit friends
· Notice people more and interact with them
· Be patient with other people who need to tell their story
· Say something kind to people I meet
· Get a gift for someone in need for no reason at all
· Help a friend through breast cancer
· Give smiles to strangers
· Get drinks for my family
· Be nice to my son’s girlfriend, even though it’s hard
· Give someone a chocolate or candy
· Extend best wishes to the Buehlers and their new baby
· Look for someone in need and help if I can
· Share my groceries and produce with others
What random act of kindness will you offer this Lent as you “let go” of those things that hinder you from being the whole and healthy person God created you to be?
In loving kindness for all God has done for us in Christ,
Candice
